Santa Fe, NM: With more than 300 million users around the globe, the photo-sharing social network Instagram has secured a place among the world’s most relevant social media channels. Santa Feans are proudly represented on the network, and on Sept. 12, a juried exhibition featuring the very best Instagram images of our beloved city will open at Art.i.fact, located at 930 Baca Street. The reception will be from 4 - 7 p.m., and the show runs through Oct. 31.
The juried photography exhibition will take Instagram images from the virtual world and present them to the community in “the real world” (IRL). The show is the brainchild of Caitlin Jenkins and Amy Tischler, curators of @SImplySantaFeNM, who recently achieved a major milestone by reaching 5,000 followers on their photo sharing account. Inspired by their followers, they decided to find a space where Instagram images could be showcased as fine art. Art.i.fact co-owners Jennifer Rowland and Michael Gullberg are making that vision a reality by hosting the first #SimplySantaFe Instagram Photography Exhibition in their ART.i.factory gallery space.
@SimplySantaFeNM was founded by Caitlin and Amy in December 2014 after the two met through Instagram. They bonded instantly over their love for photography, their hometown, and Instagram itself. Santa Fe -- with its unique sense of community, local events, businesses, and organizations -- is well-represented on Instagram, and Amy and Caitlin saw an opportunity to further connect the community. They founded their account by posing the question, “What does #SimplySantaFe mean to you?” and they have not stopped looking for images to help answer that question.
Cash prizes will be given for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place entries. And in true @SimplySantaFeNM fashion we have a treasure trove of prizes that will be raffled off to the participants AND attendees at the opening night reception. Everyone who submits an image for the exhibition as well as anyone who comes to the opening night reception will receive a raffle ticket for prizes sponsored by Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe, Santa Fe Spirits, Inn and Spa at the Loretto, La Fonda on the Plaza, Caitlin Elizabeth Photography, and the Santa Fe Brewing Company.
